An Accessible Icon:
In the '90s, Omega did the unthinkable: creating an accessible version of their most popular watch: the Speedmaster Reduced. Shortly followed by the Speedmaster Automatic Date and variants thereof, these watches were a gateway into the Speedmaster world. Their modest sizing gave them broad appeal, and they persist as a popular starter watch for those seeking to enter the Speedmaster universe. 
 
To ensure these watches were accessible and automatic, Omega utilized modified versions of the Valjoux 7751 and ETA 2892 with accompanying Dubois-Depraz chronograph module. These workhorse calibres ensured self-winding, reliable precision at reasonable cost—At a time when automatic chronographs were beginning to be further gated within the higher echelons of horology. As such, these movements are not extravagantly embellished, but have become important pieces of watchmaking history, both serving as lifelines that saved many a brand in the aftermath of the quartz crisis. To pay tribute to these movements, we've designed a new line of exhibition casebacks that allows you to view these pieces of history for yourself. As with all Spiralwinder parts, these designs are created from the same grade of stainless steel as the original watches, highly scratch resistant Sapphire, and are rigorously tested for quality and water resistance. 
 
How it's Made:
Our caseback consists of an outer ring, which we precision machine from 316L stainless steel. After polishing the steel ring to a smooth mirror finish, the optical grade sapphire window is carefully fitted with a water-resistant gasket. Prior to installation, we apply a colorless, multi-layer AR coating to it, ensuring clear viewing and photos of your movement.
