Installing a Pre-3861 Speedmaster Bezel
This is a guide for the Do-It-Yourself installation of a bezel on a pre-3861 Speedmaster.

Prepare Your Hand Press
Pre-3861 bezel installation requires the use of a dedicated bezel press. Various models can be used. For best precision, the Bergeon 5500 series is excellent, but this assembly can be completed with a simple 15 USD hand press available on any major online marketplace. We recommend using the 38mm and 42mm dies for the top and bottom contact points, respectively.

Remove the Installed Bezel
Place the chisel tip of the round tool in one of the narrower channels between the midcase and the bezel.
By pushing inward, the chisel tip will push the up and pop the bezel off.
Note that because the round tool's chisel tip is made from biodegradable plastic, it will not scratch the original bezel or the steel midcase.

Align the New Bezel
Next, place the new bezel onto the midcase, and ensure two critical alignments.
- Ensure that the text is aligned with the indices.
- Align the bezel parallel with the midcase, and not visibly lopsided. This is especially important for ceramic, as misalignment can result in cracking when force is applied.
